Fifty Shades of Grey — one of the most anticipated movies in recent memory — is headed for a North American debut of at least $45 million over Valentine’s Day and Presidents Day weekend, according to early tracking.
The Universal and Focus Features title is attracting massive interest, according to those with access to pre-release surveys. It’s hardly a surprise, considering the hype surrounding the film adaptation of EL James‘ best-selling erotic novel, a cultural phenomenon among women. Nor is it a surprise that females over the age of 25 are most interested in seeing the R-rated offering, while men aren’t as inclined to show up, although Universal still has three weeks of advertising left to go.
So the question stands, will it beat out all other movies that have debuted previously on Valentine’s Day weekend? Will the movie live up to people’s standards? Will people that don’t understand the whole BDSM element even give the movie a chance?
We think this movie will not only surpass all those movies that have banked incredibly well during Valentine’s weekend, but set a new record. We also think that the movie is going to blow our expectations and fantasies out of the water. They have cast the perfect Christian and Ana they possibly could.
Everyone out there over 17 years of age should at least go see it once. Don’t knock it until you have tried is an expression that comes to my mind. It is important to see past the sex and BDSM and get to the heart of the movie!! The heart being the love story, which develops very quickly and intensely between Christian and Ana.
Yes, this movie is breaking barriers, but maybe it is about time that a movie does. There is nothing wrong with being who you are, liking what you like, and maybe even figuring out what you are missing. This story does all these things and I think it will be epic.
