It’s official – Kim Basinger has joined the cast of Fifty Shades of Grey as Elena Lincoln, Christian Grey’s former dominant and ex-lover.
News broke yesterday via Twitter by multiple credible outlets including @Variety (which E L James retweeted, basically confirming the news anyhow) and @FiftyShades, the franchises official Twitter account. Fans went ballistic and took to the news well and with optimism.
Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are set to begin production February 15th, 2016 in Vancouver, BC so it was only a matter of time before new cast members were announced. The fans have taken to the news quite well by sending positive vibes, welcoming Basinger to #TeamFifty and our #FiftyFamily, while others are already hard at work on original graphic designs featuring Basinger in the smoldering and seductive role.
Basinger is a bombshell and a former Ford Model with a lot of experience under her belt. Kim decided to leave modeling behind and moved to Hollywood in the mid 70’s to pursue acting, which she successfully accomplished. In her early acting career she had roles in major television and cinematic productions including Charlie’s Angels, Nadine, Batman and was even a Bond Girl in ‘Never Say Never Again.’ It wasn’t until later on in her career when she decided to take on more provocative, thought provoking roles such as Kim Mathers, Marshall Mathers’ mother in ‘8 Mile,’ and ‘Cellular’ opposite Jason Statham.
With a repertoire as broad, sexy and sophisticated as Kim, it’s no wonder she was offered the role as sexy temptress and ultimate dominant Elena Lincoln. She definitely has the look for the image created by Erika in the novels. Fans cannot wait to get a glimpse of Basinger, Dornan and Johnson together on the big screen for what will surely make for an interesting second and third installment to the Fifty Shades franchise.
