Netflix announced Monday that it has acquired Jadotville, a war thriller starring Fifty Shades of Grey’s Jamie Dornan. The streaming service will premiere the film in 2016 in all of its territories.
The film is directed by Richie Smyth, known for his commercials and music videos, and tells true story of how an outnumbered Irish UN battallion came under siege from Congolese troops led French and Belgian mercenaries in 1961. Dornan plays Commander Patrick Quinlan of the Irish Battallion, a French commander is played by Guillaume Canet.
“The story of how Pat Quinlan led his troops against an overwhelming force without losing a single man is one of the great stories of the 20th century, and we are proud to be working with such a talented and committed team to bring it to life,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement. “This film will be an amazing addition to our global original films initiative.”
